Well baby checks is when the pediatrician measures your child's weight, height and physical development. They also are vaccinated against diseases at these visits.

Some consequences of not having the check ups could include:

Higher risk of illness (due to missed vaccinations)

undiagnosed delayed development

undiagnosed malnutrition or failure to thrive

undiagnosed hearing problems

undiagnosed heart mummers

Basically, if you have a child who is 100% healthy, there might not be any consequences. But if your child has a condition you and your doctor are not aware of, and you don't take them in to be screened, then the child's condition can progress without treatment for an indefinite amount of time. And potentially, can become a larger problem for them in the future.

They usually, if they are concientious about you and your baby will give you a handout, describing the milestones, your child should be achieving until the next check-up. I think that mostly they want to give the baby vaccines and ask if they have reached all the normal develpment stages.
Are you from the Center for Disease Control? How many people are going to make a poster on well baby checks?

I can name two right off the top of my head:

If the baby has any developmental delays, missing a well check could hamper treatment and make them harder to correct.

If the child has a misshapen head (called plagiocephaly - from laying on one side most of the time) the earlier it's caught the easier it is to fix. If it's caught later - like around 18 months or 2 years old, the child often has to wear a custom made (and EXPENSIVE) helmet for a year or longer to correct it.

Immunizations may be off schedule causing a risk of contracting some sort of disease. Developmentally, the child may not be up to par and if you don't get the checked, how will you know? This could cause serious problems down the road. Check with your local health department. They may be able to give you some serious medical examples that you could put in your presentation.

many things can go undiagnosed, such as maybe things with the dhilds ears or throats that could cause problems in the future. with boys the genitals must be checked continuously in the beginning, they calculate head and body measurements to watch for signs of growth (healthy or retarded), make sure they start their speech by a certain point or start walking and crawling at a certain time, they check the legs and feet to make sure there are no hip problems or feet problems, they check the lungs and heart (again for the obvious reasons)

anything new can happen in between each wellness exam and of course the MOST OBVIOUS REASON TO GO is because they get their necessary series of shots each time! this is extrememly important because LEGALLY they have to have these and certain schools wont even take them if they dotn have the regular immunizations. WELLNESS CHECK UPS ARE IMPORTANT adn no child should miss any ONE because different shots are given and new health risks could grow that no one would notice.

Hope this helps

It's basically just a checkup to make sure that the baby doesn't have anything wrong that could have been missed before they left the hospital. When they are freshly newborns it is easy to miss a lot of little things that may cause problems later on.The other thing a Well checkup is for is to make sure the baby is developing on a normal basis.

Babies are given their shots at well baby check ups, and the pediatrician also measures weight, length, and head circumference, to make sure the baby is continuing on a healthy growth curve. Doctors will be better able to notice something is wrong, if they see the baby for all well baby checks....

Your baby might not be growing/progressing or developing at the right rate.
The checks are also good in catching some childhood illnesses/diseases early on. They also aid in preventing some.
Well baby checks are just the smart thing to do. How can any parent not take their baby to theirs?

His nose will fall off?

Seriously NOTHING. Well baby checks are ONLY to administer vaccinations. Half of doctors only make a half-hearted attempt do anything else. Most doctors do NOTHING accept maybe listen to your baby's heart before jabbing them with the needle. They don't even take the baby's temperature even though it is very bad to give a vaccination to a sick child. But they get paid money by the government to vaccinate.

The only important thing is that your baby is gaining weight and developing, both of which can be very effectively monitored by mom at home.

To make sure that your child's weight gain and growth are on track, his development is progressing normally, and he's eating well and getting the nutrients he needs. The visits also prepare parents for what to expect in terms of baby care and developmental milestones before the next exam.
