Does anyone know what the bearhug hold is supposed to do? I have been in a few, and other than hurting my back a little, I have no idea what it's supposed to do. I know on tv wrestling, the opponent goes limp, but I also know how fake that is. Anyone that can help, I'd really appreciate it!
Also, if you have any stories of being in a bearhug, please share!
Also looking for any yahoo groups and/or websites showing galleries or clips of women in or giving a bearhug. Thanks again!

Well, it all depends on what you're doing really.
I'm new to this, and when I clicked on wrestling I figured colleget wrestling, but I was wrong...
Anyway, a bearhug is a move used to bind up an opponent. In professtional wrestling and in movies, a big guy giving a bear hug squeezes a guy to the point where his opponent will pass out...that's very unlikely.
A bearhug can be used to control your opponent, such as lifting them up and bringing them to a part of the ring where you can easily manipulate them in a way you want. If your strong enough, you may be able to lift your opponent and throw them onto their back while you're still holding them. Although it's quite difficult to perform, if used correctly it's almost a guaranteed pin.
If you are doing amature professional wrestling...which I suspect that you are, it can still be useful. If your matches are basically streetbrawls, wrap your opponent in a bear hug. Your advisary will most likely try to back up, when this happened, simply put your leg inbetween his and then wrap your leg around one of his. With the momentum and loss of balance of not being able to use his arms, he'll go straight to his back. With enough pressure you'll pin him.

A bearhug will hurt your back and ribs, but the main point of it is to restrict intake of oxygen. If applied properly, you shouldn't be able to breathe...usually it is only effective when the person applying the hold is much bigger than the person in the hold...
As far as websites....no idea...I have seen some naked female wrestling websites though....

The bearhug is mainly to cause your opponent to expend more energy to breath and to cause the to either submit or pass out.

Bearhug is designed to put pressure on the ribs to make it hard to breathe

No, a bearhug is not to make you pass out. It's to apply enough pressure to your chest cavity to make you submit. It works best on someone who's a lot lighter/weaker.

If you do it right, it crushes the lungs and can even hurt the ribs. I put a guy in a bearhug once (in a "friendly" fight) and he had to wear an Ace bandage cause i bruised some ribs.
Never been in one myself.

If the person performing the hold is strong enough, and is doing it right, they can suffocate you by keeping your lungs from filling with air. The only time this sort of thing has happened to me was when one of my opponents tried giving me a german suplex with a bridge, but grabbed be too high on my abdomen. I felt like I had a pillow over my face.

The only bear story I know that's about as true as the wwe is this Davy Crockett once shot and killed 36 bears only firing 35 times. When asked how he did this he replied two of those bears were misbehavin.

It hurts ur ribs and back. It is the finishing move of Mark Henry. They hug you tightly and that's all fake.
