A T-shirt that reads:

"It took me 50 years to look this good"

Or

"18 with 32 years experience" (you can modfify the ages)

BTW - if the person is in the US they will be getting a gift from AARP - an invitation to join (How they figure out when we turn 50 I'll never know).

Well, I just turned 50 and am female. I got the things that I asked for.

You don't say how they are related to you and if a man or a woman, so this is difficult. If they like to read, buy them a bookstore gift card. If they like to garden, get them a giftcard or a beautiful pot and some good gardening tools from a garden shop. Turning 50 doesn't mean our tastes change, but we certainly may want less of those things that sit around the house and collect dust. Unless this person wears jewelry every day, don't buy them any. Unless you know their preferred scent, don't buy perfumed products. If they drink wine, buy a good bottle of wine or champagne. Or, if you have the money, a really great gift would be a gift certificate for a one-hour massage.

Here's something creative that will be appreciated and you will have fun doing:

Make up a crossword puzzle and have all the hints be personal inside moments and jokes that only you two would know about. Put it on a poster board and add some clipart and some pictures to it!

The crossword puzzle could be time consuming and a bit frustrating ... you could do the same idea with a WORDSEARCH or WORDFIND puzzle.

Put your computer skills to work! Use Excel, get clipart from Yahoo Images Search, copy them, and reformat them, use a gluestick to put on posterboard.

Use graph paper, and pictures from magazines if you are not as good on the computer, and it will give it a homemade feeling.
