My immediate reaction is how Nazi it sounds. As in Ubermenchen - the super race that the Nazis were trying to breed. When I hear it, it gives me a sick feeling, sort of like fingernails on a blackboard, but on a different, deeper frequency. How long has it been the new word to use? Do you think it will stick around? I hope not.

Yes, I know it's just a German prefix and the Nazis didn't invent or own it. It's just that for me it has connotations that give it a very unpleasant flavor.

The word was around long before the Nazis and will be around long after you or me. Whether it will be as common as "cool" or "bad" remains to be seen, but I doubt it.

With our country's surprising lack of knowledge but constant desire to have a 'new' (place new item here), it's kinda surprising you just started hearing the German for super being used.
If you don't like it's use, each time someone around yoou uses it, reply with 'super'.
If that doesn't work, get a broom handle and the next time someone uses it, beat them until their retinas detach.
Then ask how 'uber' that was.
Just an idea...

Ubermensch was originally a term used by Nietzsche to describe how we should be our own gods. It was just perverted by his sister, who was a Nazi supporter, after his death.

Uber is a perfectly valid prefix in German and has a long history of use in vernacular English or discussion of philosophy.

It doesn't bother me as much as, "My bad."

I left Canada for a few years, came back, and suddenly people were using this phrase.

I guess it's cute once in awhile, but now it's almost normal.

Uber doesn't sound bad to me at all because it basically sounds like "super" with the same meaning. Super, uber, uber, super.

Sorry to disagree with you. My bad.
