There are definetly some questions that I am not thinking of that I should be asking the Doc. Do you know of any?

"What books do you recommend?"

If he says "What to Expect When You're Expecting," run. It's all about how to worry, and how to be a good little patient who won't question even the stupidest obstetric interventions.

If he says "The Thinking Woman's Guide to a Better Birth," thank him. And, really, do buy a copy -- it'll give you an excellent idea of what you need to ask.

Only one : what is your episiotomy rate for First Births?
After that, you will know whether to go on with your appointment or get up politely from your chair. It is very easy, simply because the Doctors who are good enough and skilled enough in Midwifery Techniques don't cut ; therefore their non-cutting rate is high, as high as the "cutters" rate is for the "necessary" wounds, who know no better because that's all they know how to do: cut. They will go on doing so until it becomes a "scientific" truth that it should not be done, especially the First time; well, remember after Louis Pasteur's discovery of germs, Doctors wilfully refused to wash their hands when attending Births. As a result, thousands of Women died and Thousands kept on dying until it was stipulated that Women were susceptible to germs. However, washing one's hands is a considerably easier task than acquiring the necessary "know-how" required, in order not to remain a "cutter".
It is a question of Manner and it equates Ethics with Esthetics, putting them on the same level : one either loves and respects the Female Form or one deludes oneself one does.

P.S. Do ask about the rate of C.section and induction - there is always the risk of ending up in hands who only know how to do that. So the Doctor could answer any number to you, on account of not "doing" vaginal Births anymore. The speciality of these sort of people, in my opinion, is to "own" your Birth.

What is your EDD(estimated due date)?; policies of the office regarding call in questions or when to call vs go to Labor and Delivery;any questions you have about weight gain, medical issues, morning sickness(if this is an issue). Who will deliver if your Dr isnt available and will you meet this person at some point during the pregnancy.

isnt it exciting!! congrats!! well if you cant think of questions off the top of your head then write them down when you do during the day and go in your next visit with a list. of course ask what foods and drinks to stay away from and any activity. ALSO buy the best book the world "what to expect when expecting" I LOVE THIS BOOK and it had every question answered i needed. I relied more on that book than my dr!! because it was so great. also it gives you month by month what to expect and i swear it was 99% on all the time!! go buy it you'll love it especially since you sound like i did..very excited and eager!! CONGRATS AND GOOD LUCK!
