Any book that person may find interesting. Literature is not about what must be read or not, it's about pleasure, it's an art, and its spectators (or readers in this case) should enjoy it at the most, it should not be a punishment. I know many people who just read "Hamlet" or "The canterbury tales" or Dante's "Inferno" for example, but do it with the only expectation of being called "cultured" because he or she read those classic works of literature. If you loved those books, fine, even better, but if you fall asleep reading them, look for a book that interest you, it doesnt matter if it's a Shakespeare's play or the harry potter series, the important thing is to read, dont let yourself be influenced by others' criteria, you have your own thoughts and tastes.
Good luck

Read TundraSpartan Stories stuff, they're pretty good, I favor Guardian of the War-Zone, yes, I "own" TundraSpartan Stories, I wrote all the books, I kicked all the other authors' asses, but I need to update the page so that people can download the sample of Guardian of the War-Zone.
Here's the link: www.freewebs.com/tundraspartan

The Dark Material is a series of three books, the golden compass, the subtile knife and the third one i havent read yet. but its a great series. :)

Well here's some of my favorite books. The Alex Rider series, Airborn, and The Last Jihad depending on your age group. Lemony Snicket is pretty good and you should also try some christian fiction. I know a lot of it is poor quality but Ted Dekker and Frank Peretti are both really good.
