I don't think in terms of rocks having spirit, and the earth is basically a rock that can support life. This is not a vindictive thing going on, it is a very real tragedy that has reached a point of being irreversable. WE must accept that life is going to change dramatically, and much more suddenly than any of us ever thought possible. IF each of us does our share ...turn off lights, use flourescent tubes, turn down the thermostat, walk or ride a bike, ... in general, stop our highly wasteful ways, we are doomed, and there is no other word to describe what is happening. A greatly reduced land mass is resulting because of polar ice melt...it cannot be stopped. The relocation of about 75 million people cannot be accomodated by the Earth, period. We will not be able to feed all that can survive the ice cap melt, for much of our land that is used for food will no longer be useful due to lack of rain. Those areas that will get rain will get far too much and wipe out the crops....The only place that will be habitable will be around the equator...look at a globe! You will find that there is very little land at the equator. Global warming will quickly lead to an ice age, believe it or not, for the ocean currents will stop, and the engine that drives our climate will be turned off. All the above is truer than we are being lead to believe. We can stall the events, but at this point, we cannot stop them. That time has come and gone because our government has been in bed with the massive energy companies whose job it is to be wasteful and pump trillions of liters of CO2 into the air. The time is here for all of us to pay for what has happened. Sorry to be so gloomy, but anyone who thinks we can reverse this process needs to read a little. There is not ONE scientific artlicle written in the last 40 years that disputes all that I have said above. .. The only difference is that scientists didn't realize how fast it could happen. Good luck

Hm... I don't know why this topic is in this section, but it's an interesting question that perked my interest nontheless. I've always believed the Earth has a Conscious because it's fully alive and active all the time (tectonics, mountains, coastal forms, biomes, species, genes,) there's so much to prove it is alive and interconnected.

Um... well in a way, I think humans aren't supposed to overpopulate planets... :P But yet we do... so yes I believe the Earth's trying to remove us in various ways (furious tsunamis, hurricanes, oceanic processes (flooding), etc...

We have to work as a whole planet if we're going to strike a balance between its regeneration rates and our consumption rates.

Did you watch South Park last night? Kind of the same storyline. Interesting . . .

No, I don't think so. I do think that nature will always seek a balance, though, and when things become too unbalanced, the earth will right itself- regardless of how it affects its living things.
