They may be sagging. This is determined by measuring the ride height. If it is below factory spec, they are sagging. This will throw off the alignment causing premature and uneven tire wear.

The Taurus is notorious for having issues with broken coil springs, especially at the rear but also at the front. If you are having coil spring issues I highly recommend replacing them before they break. Two weeks ago we had a Taurus in my shop where the left rear coil spring broke, instantly dropped 4-inches below the lower spring perch and the jagged broken lower end of the spring punctured the tire causing an instantaneous blowout. Scary stuff.

They are possibly weakened. So far as breaking, that is a remote possibility. If your vehicle height is too low or you have excessive bounce when you go across rough terrain, you could have some air shocks mounted and restore some of the suspension stiffness. There are spacers that you can buy to insert into the springs to restore height, but I would not recommend these. If you are satisfied with the ride and the height, just leave them alone and drive on.

Have these Air Lift air bags inserted in your rear coil springs, and you won't have to replace the springs. You simply pump them up with compressed air to handle whatever load and ride height you desire. I've use them on several cars and they work great.

you could just get airshocks. springs will wear out if they are overloaded, to much "juck in the trunk".
