He was born Leroy Page, but his parents changed it to Paige because they felt Paige was a higher-class name.
They sent Satchel to the Industrial School for ***** Children in Mount Meigs, Alabama after he was found guilty of shoplifting and truancy. They hoped the institution would provide the opportunity for a better and more productive life.

Sorry I've searched like heck for this but theres nothing on them except this:"There is little known about Satchels parents or much of his childhood".I found out they wanted him to go to a school so he could stay out of trouble but thats it.
