I'm not the world's biggest fan of these recent 'retro' cars, but I've anticipated this car since the concept car from a few years ago.

I have to say that is is perhaps the best recreation of recent times. The new Beetle was a dressed-up Golf with a price-tag, and the Mini, while a decent enough car, is massive, pricey, and German. Oh, and did I mention the estate agent thing?

The new Fiat has clearly grown a bit, but doesn't appear to lose any of the cute styling of the old model, and of course, Fiat churns out some great small cars, so you can safely guess that this car's going to be more than an overpriced fashion statement. £8k for an entry-level 1.2 might not be budget car terretory, but it's entry-level Fiesta pricing.

The new 500 itself is based on the Panda, and if that's anythng to go by, it should be cracking to drive too.

Better still, they're planning to offer a version with the Panda 100HP engine.

Perhaps another thing making the 500 more appealing to me is perhaps that I've got a soft-spot for small Fiats. Although I grew up in the '90s, I remember an old Uno my dad used to own as a runabout fondly, while the CInquecento Sporting was the Mini Cooper of the time. I even remember tuning a classic 500 on Gran Turismo on my Playstation, getting a somwhat ambitious 140BHP out of the little engine. I've simply grown up with Fiat more than I have with Beetlss or even Minis

Should be a cracking little car come January, when we (finally) get it. Clearly the biggest test is whether it can make the same impact the new Mini has made on the new car market.

in case you think of this is female and lovable, the subject isn't with the motor vehicle, this is you. in any different case, the Fiat 500 has been used for all varieties of racing for dozens of years. not something to be embarrassed approximately, while driving a automobile with a racing pedigree. Edit: You declare all those autos have been raced, and yet say they have no racing pedigree? it is it? the two they have a history of racing, or they don't. and because i can relatively locate a lot of Fiat 500 rally autos....it might look you in basic terms do not understand what you're speaking approximately. The Nissan Skyline became designed as a 4 door kinfolk automobile. So, does that advise that the present GTR has certainly no game to it? Get a clue, guy.

Very cool. Italian chic! Plus, I read today that they're planning a 150bhp, 1.4 turbo engined version. As autocar said, who'd buy a cooper now?
