1000g of water equals 1 litre. You can tell your teacher that a teacher with 28 years experience told you so,

She is getting confused with the molar volume of gases, where 22.4 litres is the volume of 1 mole of any gas.

JOhn M came closest.
1) Anything expressed in grams is a MASS. A liter is a VOLUME. Apples & oranges. 22.4 grams of water is aproximately equal to 22.4 cc of water, which is exactly equal to .0224 liter.

2) 22.4 sounded familiar to me, too, but a JOhn mentioned, it's the volume in liters of 1 mole of any gas at STP. I couldn't find anything in my conversion tables equal to 22.4 g.........

Your real problem now is to find a way of opposing the teacher without jeopardizing your grade!

One liter of water weighs about 1 kilogram (2.2 pounds).

22.4L is the volume one mole of gas occupies at STP.
