I am thinking about getting a next or salamander. (After I read how to care for them and feed them, of course!) I do not have an aquarium or terrarium, and I don't plan on getting one since they are so expensive. What can I substitute that would be almost as good as an aquarium or terrarium?

if you can't afford a proper set-up for the animal don't get it. they need that environment to be happy and healthy.

Um... yeah, the custom ones are pricey, but you can get a run of the mill one for under 100... or go used, ask at your local fish shop. If you do not have the money for a proper habitat, PLEASE do not buy the pet. You will not have the money to care for it properly.
Thank you.

try craigslist.org? They have listings from all over the country (search for your city) Perhaps you can find one for a good price in your area.
