Depends on the Judge. Most of the judges I practice in front of wouldn't even notice. They generally say "be seated" as soon as the bailiff says "all rise." But if the Judge notices and you refuse to rise, you could be held in contempt of Court. I've been doing it so long, I stand up before the bailiff even has a chance to say "all rise." If you have an older, more formal judge, he may order you to stand. Not rising creates an bad impression, so why risk it?

Standing when the judge enters the court room is a show of respect. Not standing will cause you to be charged with "contempt of court" and as I have just found out recently through a news paper article, is a felony. You can be sentenced to jail and a fine.

It's something you better hope the judge does not notice because it is contemptuous of the court.
Standing indicates respect for the authority of the court itself, not the person wearing the robes.
Unless you are deaf or handicapped or have another good reason for not standing, you would be stupid to remain seated. Nothing good can come from it.

The worst that could happen is a fine or jail time for contempt of court.

If you flat-out refuse to stand, they can hold you in contempt.

Besides it being discourteous you should be ashamed and I would likely evict you.
