Many editions of the Bible have introductory information at the beginning of each book. If you have a Bible at your house (or if you can get to a library) just flip to the beginning of the Book of Job and it will probably give you some background right there.

While you are at the library, you can look for some of the following books:

The Oxford illustrated history of the Bible
by J W Rogerson

The Oxford Bible commentary
by John Barton; John Muddiman

Who wrote the Bible?
by Richard Elliott Friedman

Who wrote the Bible
by Richard Peter

The author is the Book of Job is unknown. It is suspected that it may be a gentile writer.

Some scholars place the Book of Job as late as second century B.C., but some place it around 950 B.B.

The key chapter in the book is Job 42.

The basic question in the book is: Why do the righteous suffer if God is loving and all-powerful?

Suffering is not the central theme of the book, however. Focus on what Job learns from his suffering. What he learns is: the sovereignty of God over all creation.

I looked up my references on this. I did not inject my opinion. Much is unknown about the book of Job.

Good luck with your assignment.
