I did drive from Cali to British Columbia.

My BC insurance had expired and I needed to get my car home.

I was surprised how easy and affordable it was.

Go to the DMV and get a one way trip permit.

Cost was something cheap like $12 dollars when I did it.

This is not good for detouring and you could get fined if you are found what might be considered off course.

The trip should not take more then 2-3 days depending on how far you will travel and if you are the only driver.

Happy trails.

I would like to help but why would you need a trip permit?? You do not need a passport to drive into Canada yet (just license and birth certificate) only when flying (for right now). I am actually from Toronto, Ontario living in Jacksonville, FL and drive back and forth all the time (with US and Canadian plates). As long as you have your registration information, you are allowed to bring your car into Canada. Check with your insurance company, because many will insure when in Canada. When you do decide to drive there, depending on where in Florida you are, when you map quest your route, take the route through Charlotte, NC - West Virginia - Pennsylvania (turnpike) -- Buffalo, NY. It is the easiest and quickest way.

Trip permits? This is America. You will need a passport to get into Canada, but if you're a legal resident of the U.S. you can drive anywhere you want, any time you want (provided there's no road construction stopping you).

A passport is now required - even for Canada and Mexico.

What permit? The last time we went, we just stopped at the border and crossed into Canada.
