it is not law, but the driving instructor drives you home as, as your friend states, you will be happy or sad.

When I passed my test the instructor asked if I wanted to drive home, but I didn't want to because I was still shaking!
I think it's up to the individual.

Driving school insurance generally covers any learner to drive the car under instruction but only those over 25 that have passed(if you pass you are no longer a learner). If you fail you wouldnt really be safe driving home.

It's not a legal requirement but I made my driving instructor drive me home from my test (I passed btw). It's only sensible.

Any instructor worth his salt will drive you home as you'll probably be too excited or down to do it (unless you're abnormally cool, calm & collected).

When my daughter passed the written test, she got a permit. I let her drive home. Your instructer probably will not!!!
