I'm sorry about your loss.
Every song ever sung has meaning to someone, the trick though, since your father meant so much to you, isn't to get opinions of complete strangers.
Think of all the songs you've heard over the years - what has meaning to YOU? What song might have strong meaning to your father?
Also, consider what an emotional time this will be for you - singing a song may be more than you're prepared to do. There are hundreds of lovely poems appropriate for the reading of a funeral, and you'll be less likely to feel self-concious if you're unable to make it through a reading without breaking down.
Good luck, and God bless!

I am soo very sorry for your loss. I have no idea how you must feel. I play guitar in a Christian band and we cover this song by Vince Gill called "Go Rest High on That Mountain". Here are the words;
I know you're life on Earth was troubled, Only you could know thew pain. You weren't afraid to face the Devil, You were no stranger to the rain.
Go rest high on that mountain, son your work on Earth is done.
Go to heaven a shoutin', Love for the
father, and the Son.
Oh how we cried, the day you left us.
We gathered 'round, that grave to grieve,
Wish I could see the angels faces,
when they hear your sweet voice sing..
Go rest high on that mountain.......
Maybe if I had known your father I could pick a song that would more aptly suit his life but this one is really inspirational sounding. If the words are too inaccurate to associate with your father's life, then maybe if I knew a little about him, I could change some of the or all of the verses for you to more accurately reflect the life and passing of your father. I am sorry for your pain. I do not personally look forward to losing either of my parents. Unimaginable. So sorry. I am not the most religious person in the world. But I will pray for strength for you, although I don't think I have a whole lot of clout with God lately.
I hope the song helps.

I can't imagine how that must feel.
Sing something he liked or make a medley of the songs he liked.
There is this film called elizibeth town and at the end of the movie a band is playing at the lead characters fathers funeral. The song they play right at the end is Lynard Skynard's - Freebird, that was quiet moving.
Thank you for being a friend (that song from the golden girls) that has some nice lyrics.
You know him best, so you would know what he likes and where ever he is I am sure he will appreciate your gesture.

First off I'm sorry for your loss; I was in your shoes not over 2 years ago. You should sing something that maybe was special between the two of you or use quotes from a song he loved in the program for the service. If all else fails do what I did and write a nice ulogy (spelling) and throw some of his favorite quotes in there. Hang tight, he's still with you. Lots of love

My absolute favorite song of all time to honor someone is: Go rest high on the Mountain by Vince Gill. It's beautiful. He wrote it for his brother who passed. Singing it without bursting into tears is going to be hard though.
I'm terribly sorry for your loss. I lost my father last August after a battle with cancer. It's so very difficult to lose a parent, even knowing they are in a better place. I got to be there holding his hand when he passed.
A few other good songs are : The Rose, Bette Midler / Remember When, Alan Jackson / Please remember Me , Tim McGraw, / Daddy's Hands ?artist? / Wind Beneath My Wings / How can I help you to say Goodbye, Patty Lovelace.

The most common songs for funerals are "Amazing Grace", "Ave Maria", "Swing Low Sweet Chariot" and "When the Saints Go Marching In". However, there might be a song that you think is more appropriate for your particular situation.

It depends on what message you want to convey. You could sing "Please Remember Me" by Tim McGraw if you like country...or something like "Free Bird" is always a good song.
PLEASE REMEMBER ME
When all our tears have reached the sea
Part of you will live in me
Way down deep inside my heart
The days keep coming without fail
A new wind is gonna find your sail
That's where your journey starts
You'll find better love
Strong as it ever was
Deep as the river runs
Warm as the morning sun
Please remember me
Just like the waves down by the shore
We're gonna keep on coming back for more
Cause we don't ever wanna stop
Out in this brave new world you seek
Oh, the valleys and the peaks
And I can see you on the top
You'll find better love
Strong as it ever was
Deep as the river runs
Warm as the morning sun
Please remember me
Remember me when you're out walkin'
When the snow falls high outside your door
br> Late at night when you're not sleepin' And
light falls across your floor
When I can't hurt you anymore
You'll find better love
Strong as it ever was
Deep as the river runs
Warm as the morning sun
Please remember me
Please remember me
FREEBIRD
By Lynyrd Skynyrd
If I leave here tomorrow
Would you still remember me
For I must be traveling on now
There's too many places I've got to see
If I stay here with you girl
Things just couldn't be the same
'Cause I'm as free as a bird now
And this bird you cannot change
Oh, and the bird you cannot change
And this bird you cannot change
Lord knows I can't change
Bye-bye babe, it's been sweet, love
'Though this feeling I can't change
But please don't take this so badly
'Cause Lord knows I'm to blame
But if I stay here with you girl
Things just couldn't be the same
'Cause I'm as free as a bird now
And this bird you cannot change
Oh, and the bird you cannot change
And this bird you cannot change
Lord knows I can't change
Lord help me I can't change
Oh No, I can't change

A song from the heart has the most meaning. Try to write your own song if you can write a poem and read it because its from you and thats what makes it special. ;)
