Have you tried to go to Gateway Support website below?

After you try all of these recommendation, if you still have problems with them, you should call Gateway so they can better assist you.

If you know about computers, then try going into device manager, under your sound card, and see if there's any conflicts...other than that, if your sound is integrated, then there could be something wrong with the board itself that failed. try going into your cmos setup in bios, and check to see if anything under your sound control got disabled etc. I have had problems before with this being reset on it's own for unkown reasons...It's worth checking. Also if you've updated the drivers off the web, you could run into problems updating old drivers to newer ones, sometimes the sound get faded or choppy, distorted, or NONE at all...I've had that happen to. Other things to check are stupid thing's like power packs, cables, connections, etc...good luck, hope this helps.

Look on the keyboard for a speaker shaped image, then hold the function key and push them at the same time. Try all the function keys if that one does not work. Failing that, I would assume your laptop is screwed.

try plugging speakers into the headphone jack..if the speakers still dont work:::

-the power cable connection wire could have become lose on the back of the speaker

-the plug could have fell out of the wall, make sure speakers are getting power

thats about all i can think of..best of luck!!

Only two things I can think of they are :
1.) make sure they are getting power is they are amplified.
2.) check the wiring on them to see if there is a bubble, tear break in them.
