I have studied more than I have ever studied before since being in college. I try so hard to get the grades and it just doesnt help. My gpa last quarter was a 2.83, now with Winter quarter ending, my gpa is dropping to a 1.88, which is devastating for me. I feel like such a failure and to top it off, it feels like I have to work extra harder because i am a minority. I asked to use other resources for my classes and I was told no. Can you tell me Why I am such a failure?

*Hugs* You are Not a failure! You are merely feeling down on yourself which we have all gone through at one time or another. When I was at (community :) college I used what is referred to as 'reasonable accommodations' based on the Americans with Disabilities Act due to a learning disability such as a separate room for tests. I'm not saying that you have a learning problem yourself, but there must be an office at your school as someone else mentioned, that can provide tutoring and/or counseling to you perhaps free of cost. If you are really struggling in a certain class, perhaps find out your options as far as taking an 'incomplete' but finishing next semester (if don't finish, think students gets an 'f'/failing grade though). Or perhaps talk with your school counselor and parents about dropping a course that is really causing you to become depressed due to your struggle or whatnot.

Whoever said that there are no resources to help you did not have all of the necessary information. They should have at least suggested that you speak to the school counselor about your situation. Please do find out about services that you can use to help you figure out the best way for you to improve your grades, performance, and how you feel about yourself. And please remember that you are Not a failure but are dealing with some things that will work itself out with some positive thinking and outside resources. You are just feeling really overwhelmed right now and that is not allowing you to see the bigger picture that you are merely going thru a challenging time. Thank you for reaching out for help though, and please continue to do so at your school as well :)

Im a minority, in my second quarter and Im doing worse than I did in my first quarter too! I don't know why that is but you are not a failure and neither am I. Don't be so devastated things will get better (I hope 'cause my neck is on the line too) I'm also the first generation in my family to go to college.

don't get stressed out, you can get tutors and such to help you out, you can also go to the multicultural office at your school and they can help you out.

good luck hun'
and don't worry everything will be okay!!

Do not think you are a failure. You are only on your first year of College. Perhaps the subjects you study are very difficult...Everybody goes through such a phase...Keep up the good work and cheer up, the results we get are not the most important, enjoying the ride is much nicer...

Wait a minute why are you so hard on yourself? So you have a lower gpa I know it's important to you but a failure no I don't think so. Stop and evaluate yourself. Am I a good person? Do I get along with others? Do I treat people with respect? This is what makes a person. I think you need to take a deep breath relax a little and your gpa will bounce back. Take Care and have a good day.

well i know im still in high school, but i know quite a bit about this. first of all, your not a failure, your tired. stop trying to work yourself so hard. life has more to it than just studying and keeping your grades up. you also are probably depressed. dont feel like you have to work harder because your different either. everybody is different bro, and you have to except that. life is hard, and you have to get on the ball and try to be happy. your mind is probably playing a game on you. just chill out and love life and things will get better. ill pray for you as well. good luck.
