Do they hate the messenger so deeply that they refuse to acknowledge the message?

What if Gore is right? Is it not worth looking into? Will neo-cons not even consider the possibility? Do they hate their children as well as not to concern themselves with the with Global Warming?

Am I wrong?

No, your not wrong, the Con, know nothing about Global Warming, they set there with there rude remarks to Al Gore. The reason is stupidity, the Republican always when they know nothing to say compare what a person has made a study of and knows what he is talking about, dig up his electrical bill and taunt him with something that is so stupid. The Senator from Okla., making his smart remarks , even to to Tipper is about as stupid as his President. Why didn't Al Gore tell him to go to hell and walk out , because Gore looks at him just like I do, ignorant.

Hi Chi.

I can't speak for every conservative, of course, but I don't deny global warming. That said:

1) In Congressional testimony, the study group set up by Congress says man causes 20% of global warming, at best. Now, they say it is this 20% that is the "tipping" margin, as we only contributed 5 or 6% 100 years ago. None the less, even the pro-theorists acknowledge humans aren't the MAJOR contributor to global warming, but only the significant margin contributor.

2) I'm not convinced, by any means, global warming wouldn't be occurring even if humans NEVER had existed. The earth goes through cycles, large and small, warming and cooling. The fact that we are registering a warming now, and what is causing that, are not at all definitive.

3) We haven't enough geological and atmospheric history to accurately Gage what is causing the warning. We can only give our best "guess". Now, in some things our best guess is pretty good, but with global climate change, we haven't enough serious historical knowledge to even give our best guess too much credibility.

That all said, we should all do what we can, although not in an alarmist fashion, to reduce human-originating carbon emissions. We should also look at what we could reasonably do to reduce other than human carbon emissions, since 80% of carbon emissions are NOT of human origin.

Honestly, though, my guess is most conservatives don't even understand that the debate isn't whether it's happening or not (it is, most certainly), but rather what is causing it, and how much we, as humans, are responsible for. And, maybe most importantly, how much of a negative effect that warming might cause. The Al Gore fans think quite a bit, but even the pro-theorists are now saying his views are alarmist, and, most likely, exagerated to a worst-case scenario, which isn't the most statistically likely scenario.

Take care-

At least you admit it's only a possibility and not a fact like Gore would have us believe. What if Gore is right? According to some of the scientists he quoted, there is nothing we can do to prevent it anyway. The better question is whether Gore may be wrong? Will global warming go the way of the "second ice age" fiasco of the 70's or the "acid rain" threat of the 80's?

Gore is right in one aspect, the climate is changing.

Everything else is hot air. The earth is naturally changing as it has done for Melina. Gore is simply profiteering from it. Look at it this way....

Political power
Federal / World funding
Carbon offset industry (which he owns)
Kyoto (which he mostly laid out)

These are the top four. He and many scientists are simply capitalizing on a phenomena that is a natural occurrence.

We should be preparing for the future climate, not trying to fix something that isn't broken.

It is not just Neo-Cons bashing. I am not a Neo-Con and most regular Conservatives think the same way I do.

Global warming may indeed be happening, but it is NOT man made............if it is, then why are the polar caps on Mars shrinking and how did 'we' cause that?

It is a natural phenomenon of which we have no control and by creating this hysteria the Libs are ready to collapse our economy. Remember we were headed for another ice age back in the 70's. What happened with that? Science can't even predict with any certainty what the weather will be over the next 7 days..........and you believe they can predict a world wide catastrophe over the next XX years? It may be a bit warmer now--but it will be a bit cooler *sometime* over the next 1/2 century. (And so it cycles on.)

I seriously believe that we should protect our environment and find cleaner fuels and reduce pollution-- but I know 'we' are not causing the changes that Gore preaches.

You're wrong Chai Guy--very cute, but wrong.

It is more productive to minimize the blaming, emotion and belief part of the issue of global warming and focus on solutions.

Global warming is a complex issue.

Reading the popular media can lead a person to conclude that "global warming" is:
o- either a hoax to promote business opportunities, politicians agenda and scientists grant money.....
OR
o- a problem related to overpopulation, industrialization and fossil fuels whose solution options lie in solar power, wind power, geothermal power and nuclear fusion....

However, the correct answer may be altogether different:

NASA has released never-before-seen images that show the sun's magnetic field is much more turbulent and dynamic than previously known. The international spacecraft Hinode, formerly known as Solar B, took the images. Hinode was launched Sept. 23 to study the sun's magnetic field and its explosive energy. National Aeronautics and Space Administration scientists said the spacecraft's uninterrupted high-resolution observations of the sun are expected to have an impact on solar physics comparable to the Hubble Space Telescope's impact on astronomy. "For the first time, we are now able to make out tiny granules of hot gas that rise and fall in the sun's magnetized atmosphere," said Dick Fisher, director of NASA's Heliophyics Division. "These images will open a new era of study on some of the sun's processes that effect Earth, astronauts, orbiting satellites and the solar system." Hinode is a collaborative mission led by
the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency and includes the European Space Agency and Britain's Particle Physics Astronomy Research
Council. NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., managed the development of the Hinode's scientific instrumentation provided by industry and federal agencies.

>>> as regards alternative energy methods, I favor development of the technology for nuclear fusion using lunar Helium 3

We bash Human Caused Global Warming because it is ridiculous.

The sun has the power to heat the entire US by more than 30 degrees in 1 day. I'm pretty sure it's powerful enough to heat an entire planet 0.6 degrees over 150 years.

Humans can NOT heat the entire US by any amount. Come back and talk to me when humans are that powerful. Until then, it is the height of arrogance to think we have enough power to influence global temperatures.

If there is global warming, it has nothing to do with humans, we are far too insignificant.

I think Gore is hypocritical on the issue. That being said, I see no reason not to continue to study the situation. I don't think we are responsible for it, but there is no harm (and much good) in trying to be good stewards of the planet.

I just would rather not be guilted into laws restricting my vehicle choice, sin-taxing my energy usage and mandating my purchase of carbon-offsets (what a wacky idea - I wonder if I can pay a thin person to not eat a Big Mac so I can have 2 next time).

It is not climate change that the sensible right bashes, it is the man made component of it. Climate has changed numerous times in the Earths history, even before any man walked the planet. This isn't about hate
, but common sense. How would paying higher taxes, or transferring wealth to the third world stop climatee change? Why is every solution to climat change offered by the left nothing other than the expanse of government at the expense of the individual? Why would anyone think that Conservatives would throw away their principles when presented with an imaginary bogey man

Because climatologists have a terrible record of accurate predictions about global climate. Global warming is big business and is nothing more than the latest scare designed to punish capitalist societies and increase the influence of socialist environmentalists.
