American cars with big block V-8's from Chevrolet, Pontiac, Dodge, Plymouth, Ford and Mercury from the 1960's and early 1970's are considered muscle cars, but not Cadillacs and Lincolns from the same time period. They had the same big block V-8. So are they not considered muscle cars because they were so big and heavy? And for that matter, why are station wagons with big block V-8's from that era also considered muscle cars?

That would make them "muscle wagons"

Actually, It also depends on how many doors they have.
ONLY coupes (two door) are in the class of "muscle cars"

I've NEVER seen a four door muscle car.

Muscle cars were light weight. They got started by putting in the big block engines from the heavier cars into the lighter body styles. Starting with the 64 GTO. It really took off for about a decade. Then the insurance companies and the government got involved, and it started going downhill from there. Other muscle cars from the era? Shelbys, Cuda, Road runners,AMX, Novas, Chevelles, Camaros, Corvettes, Merc cyclones, and a bunch of others. Everybody had a muscle car in the line-up

They are considered muscle cars. where did you hear that they are not. America is not the only one with muscle cars. The Audi S4, S6, S8, and RS4 are german muscle cars. They all have a big V8 in them. The new BMW M3, M5, and M6 are also muscle cars as well as the Mercedes Benz AMG series.
The Japanese also have muscle cars. They have the Toyota Supra, Nissan Skyline, and Lexus GS and LS series.

To be considered a muscle car they would have to have a high power to weight ratio. Those behemoths weighed too much.
