My baby has really dry skin/eczema on her face and ears. At the hospital they recommended olive oil. I also read that mineral oil is good too. Which is best? I prefer the mineral oil because the olive oil really makes her stink. But I want to make sure I am using what is best to keep her skin moisturized.

Neither...all you need to do is this:

Start with an oatmeal bath daily:

Immediately following the bath apply Aquaphilic ointment:

Apply the ointment at each diaper change for two days (that's how I remembered to do it several times a day)...by then it should be pretty much gone, be sure to keep up the baths and apply the ointment right after them to keep it from flaring up again.

This is what our pediatrician recommended and it has pretty much eliminated my 7 month old daughter's eczema...I recommended it to my cousin who's son's face was terrible with eczema and it has solved his problem as well.

Stay away from mineral oil - it is petroleum based!

If you find the smell of olive oil too strong try another type of plant based oil such as apricot kernel, sunflower, coconut. They are lighter oils, but highly absorbing. Any oil that you use needs to be first/expeller/cold pressed and be sure that it doesn't have any chemical solvents used in the extraction process (going with a certified Organic brand is your safest bet). These nasty chemicals will be absorbed into your baby, too.

I preferred pure cocoa and shea butters (not creams, as they have all sorts of things added) for my girls - pure cocoa butter smells like chocolate! They are very rich and a small amount goes a long, long way - so buy the best quality you can find, the price is worth it!

Olive is best but, if you don't like the smell try Burt's Baby Bee Apricot Oil. It smells great and works wonders to heal the dry skin. (See Link Below)
