Some medication should not be crushed these are called slow release, as they are designed to be absorbed into your bloodstream through a certain time, if they are crushed then there is no protective coating around them which lets them be absorbed as designed

It takes 10 seconds for intravenous drugs to get into the blood stream; it takes roughly 10 to 15 minutes for drugs given by a shot to get into the bloodstream and it takes 30 - 45 minutes for drugs taken orally to enter the bloodstream regardless of what type they are. Keep in mind however that time released medication is not as effective when crushed as it cannot "time release" the medication effeciently.

It depends on the medication! Be carefuk though, some medications are not meant to be crushed. If you are looking for faster absorbsion, try a liquid form or ask your pharmacist if a capsule form is available -- that way you can open the capsule and put the drug in juice, water, applesause or icecream.

Most should not be crushed as it affects the way it works. Some do work a little faster when crushed. The print out with a prescription will tell you if you should not break or crush.
