The mouse is more likely to be the issue than the computer, especially if you've been slamming the mouse around. Squeeze out a few bucks for a new mouse and it should be fine, unless you've been mistreating the computer as well.

I don't know what kind of mouse you have but it sounds like the ball needs to be cleaned. If you unscrew the bottom and take out the ball you will see some rollers and wheels. They are probably dirty. Get a q-tip, soak it in alcohol, and rub the dirt off the rollers and wheel. That will fix it if it is a mouse with a ball.

If it is a old ball mouse, then you need to clean it and try... But if I am a position like this, I would buy a new optical mouse.
Also just to make sure, check your mouse.

if its a ball mouse.take off the cover on the bottom and there are 3 little rollers in there.take a pair of tweezers and lightly rub where the mouse ball has been riding on them. The debris should come off and blow out this chamber and wash the mouse ball before putting it back in.

your mouse could be getting dirty, turn it over, remove the cover, remove the ball, look inside ifyou see any dirt that accumulating around the rollers (mostly there are), use the tip of your finger to remove them all, put everything back, and try again. It should work again.

Follow the advice of WWW.Koma he is right. I have done it before and it worked. Has nothing to do with the ball.
