Why do Republican have to use gay marriage,an expression of religous freedom as a skirt issue to what's really going on here:
Money, corruption, and fake political "issues" to hide it all.

I thought freedom of Religion was important to them BUT only when its THEIR religion. Aha!

I think they've lost the edge this used to give them. People are tired of the far right's bleating over this issue, and they witnessed two failed attempts at a Marriage Amendment. Bush used the Religious Right shamelessly over this issue, making promises he already knew would be impossible to keep. He burned some bridges over this in 2004, and I don't think the Republicans can stoke it back up to its former fire power. The scandals that broke around the mid-terms didn't help the RR either, people have become much more cynical about their claim of "moral superiority" over the rest of us.

The republicans can get away with this because they have a strong group identity which allows them (as freakzilla has shown) to turn political issues into moral issues. it doesn't matter that morality is relative.

the way i think we should stop it is to show that it is a skirt issue, by asking why we are dealing with this all of a sudden when there are a million and one things that are having an actual impact on our country right now this second. we need a lot of people asking and making as much noise as they can.

(Freakzilla? Straight guys like playing with those holes too. theres a whole market for them. Grow the hell up and stop judging others for what they do in private)

You're right, I think both Democrats and Republicans use smoke and mirrors to distract the people from what's really going on. By my estimation, however, the Republicans use gay marriage and abortion as issues to take their voters eyes off of more relevant issues such as the North American Union, Illegal Immigration etc.

Funny how no legislature was ever change on the abortion issue and this issue by the neo-cons while they had complete control of all 3 houses. They didn't want anything to change, or it would be.

I don't understand this assertion - I've seen it before.

If it's not an important issue, then the Democrats can defuse it by agreeing to ban it.

But if that's an offensive idea, then that proves that it's an important issue, and that the Republicans aren't wasting their time talking about it.

You can't have it both ways, so to speak. Complaining that it's a secondary issue, then fighting so hard on it. It's a clear contradiction.

It allows them to get people (voters) riled up over purely emotional and religious issues.

And you are sadly correct -- many people only seem to believe in freedom of religion when they get to impose their religion on others. But anything which challenges that religion is invalid.

LMAO Kinda like the Dems used the fear of the draft in the last election, right?

I personally don't give a damn about gay marriage, but I *do* respect the RIGHTS of others to disagree. You should try that sometime....

Republicans are merely using religious conservates for their vote.

They pander to them constantly in hopes of drawing support.
