I live in Spain, 30 minutes inland from Alicante , and in the summer it is hot!! 44-48 degrees but in the winter it is freezing! In January the temperature dropped to -12 at night so the answer to your question is, it depends where in the meditteranean block you are!!

I live in Turkey in the north near Istanbul it is very cold with snow and ice in winter, very hot in summer.Where I live in south west it is very hot summers and short mild winters though it feels cold to us sometimes. So in the summer I would say yes all the Med is hot but the winters vary in different areas of the Med.

Compared to the UK, yes! Compared to countries on the equator, not so bad. It is all a matter of comparison.
