Each week has a theme, which means a limited style of songs to choose from. When they put out an album, it will most likely be in the style of their choice. So doesn't that mean that this format is not an accurate representation of who that artist will be?? We may like the person's ability to sing the themes, but they may put out an albumn that is a style we don't like.

For example, I don't like R&B music, so an artist I like, who sang well on the show, then puts out an R&B album, I won't buy it. Why can't they let them pick their own songs each week in whatever style they want? Wouldn't that give a better idea of what we'd be buying?

RATINGS!!! THEY HAVE THE 60s THEME TO PULL IN THE OLDER AUDIENCE... THE CONTESTANTS HAVE BEEN VERY CLEAR ON WHAT GENRE OF MUSIC THEY LIKE AND WANT TO PERFORM... EXAMPLE: WE KNOW WHAT TYPE OF ALBUMS BLAKE LEWIS WILL COME OUT WITH (HE PUTS HIS OWN SPIN ON EVERY SONG HE SINGS) SAME GOES FOR MELINDA AND LAKISHA... WE ALL KNOW THAT THEY WILL BE R&B... AND WE ALL KNEW THAT CHRIS DAUGHTRY WOULD BE ROCK, CARRIE UNDERWOOD WOULD BE COUNTRY, ETC, ETC... ITS NO BIG SECRET!!!

Because if the contestants were allowed to pick what genre and time period they wanted to sing from they would always pick their strongest area. But the point is to become a well rounded musician and compare the contestants equally.

It really is a way of weeding out the not so good singers as you can see. The singers need some kind of multi-talent to be good enough to make a record deal.

a good singer should be able to sing every type of song. I think that is what they are doing, anyway. But I don't think that it is true, some people sing fantastic one way, not everything.

The whole show is a fabricated sham.
It does not allow the contestants to show their true potential.
I think it's a waste of time watching that show.
