On my birthday, the largest earthquake to occur in the San Francisco Bay area since 1906 hit 10 miles northeast of Santa Cruz.

The Tiananmen Square protests of 1989 (and the Tiananmen Square Massacre).

The "Velvet Revolution" in Czechoslovakia that overthrew the communist government there.

The end of the Soviet-Afghan War.

End of the Cold War, fall of the Berlin Wall, and the breakup of the Warsaw Pact.

The US army invaded Panama

The Berlin wall came down. The Tiannamen Square massacre happened in China - as a result of a student demonstration.

The "Satanic Panic." (well it happened all through the 80's)People were in an uproar because some people were coming up with "recovered memories" saying that they had been kidnapped and made to be part of satanic rituals. A lovely scapegoat for all your own short comings "The Devil made me do it."
