Yes. Defense is very important and he was tops at one of the three most important defensive positions. And he was productive on offense, too.
With all the bloated power hitting numbers we are going to have to more consistently reward some other attributes besides HR and RBI.

What are the qualifications for a HoFer these days? The qualifications used to be that a player had to be a dominant player in the era in which they played.
I like Omar, and he is great in the field, but I would not consider him to be a dominant player in the last 15 years or so. There have been a lot of great SS's who have played in the same era as Omar including ARod, Jeter, and Tejada.
Omar stats put him on the bubble, like Andre Dawson or Al Oliver have been in the past. He's definitely not a first ballot pick, but he may have a shot at getting in with a vote from the Veterans Committee. That's what it took to get Bill Mazeroski in, and I can see that it may be the same for Omar.

Yeah he's a hall of famer. 11 Gold Gloves and .984 fielding % you don't have to be an incredible hitter to be a hall of famer in my opinion.

I think that if Ozzie Smith is in, then Omar should be as well. Oz did have a ring though, maybe that will hurt Omar.

yes, without a doubt he is a HOFer. as you already pointed out, 984 fielding percent, best EVER for a SS. 11 gold gloves. what more needs to be said.

He should be a 1st ballot just like Ozzie was. These numbers speak louder than words.

I would say borderline. If anything helps him, its his 11 gold gloves and .984 fielding %.

No - not in the era of shortstops like A-Rod, Jeter, Tejada, etc. He doesn't have enough offense. Maybe if he had played in the same era as Ozzie Smith.
