my daughter brought home a small cabbage plant from school and i am not a very good gardner. i would like to know the best way to grow them. It is now in a medium size pot (cause we cannot plant it in the yard, animals will tear it up) and it is about a foot tall.. I need to know what temp it likes best and how often sunlight is needed and water and if it needs any plant food. thanks for ur answers......

Sunlight, water, and fertilizer are the most important needs of a cabbage plant. Up in Alaska, in the Matanuska Valley, they grow cabbage larger than basketballs. If you are trying to grow a large cabbage, you might want to use hydroponics (soilless) and a halogen grow light on 24 hours a day. Use Peter's orchid fertilizer (or any high content water soluble fertilizer) and a medium size container filled with perlite and water. If you just want to grow it, put it in a southern exposure window (or a window with lots of light) and water and fertilize it regularly.

If not luck, just try planting the seed directly into the ground, water every 2 days or so. Keep slugs and other pests off the area.
If the plants do not grow, buy for some nice cabbages from a shop and claim them as your own.

Tranplant into a 5 to 7 gal pot,
Keep it outside, they like it cold to start
very little fertilizer or it will bolt
