Kobe changed his number to 24 because that was the number he began his high school career with. But, back in high school, he changed his number to 33, out of repsect for his father Joe "Jellybean" Bryant, who also wore number 33 while in high school. But, when Kobe reached the NBA, he couldn't wear 33 because it had been retired by Kareem. Kobe chose 8 because it was the number he wore as a kid when he played in Italy, and also his number from Nikes ABCD camp (143) added up to 8, that's why he chose it.
He said his changing numbers was meant to signify the start of the second half of his career, which leads a lot of people to think that Kobes game may be going to change around a bit.

he did it because it was his high school number. He knew his image was finally coming back together so he decided it was a new start.
Players dont make money off of their jersey sales, so that theory is out. Maybe he wanted to be #1 again. Next year will be iverson because of the trade to Denver Nuggets.
Unless some other huge name Leaves his team. like KG

Yep. He did because he was jealous of Wade being the #1 jersey guy. But to me he didn't prove any point. Because if Wade change his number again then Wade will be the #1 jersey guy.

well he says to the media he changed it because thats the # he wore in HS but we all should know that he did it for the money of course.everyone had the #8 jerseys and nobody was buying it anymore. so he changed it to 24, so everyone had to go get a new one, thus increasing his profits.

Probably, if anything it was a pretty smart move, to gain more money from jersey sales.
(P.S, If you think Michael Jordan is the greatest athlete of all time then tell me 1 record he holds)
(that was from a question you gave me the best answer for, it was from the greatest athlete question)

Yeah I agree with the rest of the them I think he is doing it for the money and so people can see the new Kobe Bryant not the old one . yet I think he is just doing to get less attention to himself and more on his games and stats.
