I have a friend who needs to find out her blood type to see if she can donate part of her liver to her mother. She has called Red Cross, all 3 of her doctors & many other people and they all say they can't do it or that it would take 6-8 weeks for the results. She needs to know as soon as possible. Does anyone have any sure ideas of where she could go today and get the results at least within a week? And the type is not on her birth certificate either.

I can tell you that blood typing is a very quick and simple procedure that you can have a result within few minutes. Two drops of blood would be neeeded and two kinds of solutions are used to mix up with the blood, a little mixing and result will be revealed. Any laboratory can do it. There is even a kit available from the pharmacy which can be availed to do it yourself. Anyway, just wondering- if your friends mother is waiting for a donor then let your friend to see her mother's doctor to get tested, she do not need to go anywhere else. If the 3 doctors you mentioned are involved in the care of her mother, I would say that maybe her mother refuses her to be the donor and talked to her doctors, the reason why they are refusing to test her. Testing her fully if she can be a compatible donor is the thing that would take sometime to get the result.

She can have her doctor order a type and cross to be done at a local hospital. It would be done within a few hours. If the doctor explains the reasoning as to why it needs to be done so quickly, the lab is sure to give it priority.

well, the doctor is full of crap because if she volunteers as an organ donor for her than they will automatically do a blood test to see if she matches and then they will have the results within 24hours.
