Play fewer notes.

Think harmonically. In other words play notes that are part of the corresponding chords. If you are soloing over a C minor chord then concentrate on the notes C, E flat, and G. Good soloists create conflict and resolution. Conflict is created by playin non-chord tones and then resolution is created by playing chord-tones like the ones listed above. Just go back and forth between conflict and resolution.

Also learn other people's solos to see what makes them work and steal a few licks here and there. Everybody does it, trust me.

Listen! Listen to some of others' work. I mean pentatonic minor is the most over used and abused solos; everybody writes them. It always helps me to listen to others, and figure out what I like, what I don't like, and then go about your own. You get to familiarze yourself in that scale. Hope it helps you out.

Study carefully the solos that the greats do. Transcribe them yourself by ear (classic learning technique) or buy one of those recorders that slows down the tempo without lowering the pitch.
