Can I take cuttings in winter (or now) then freeze them until i"m ready to use them.Example... maple, lilac,spiaria.

Yes, you can freeze them. Take a plastic jar, not glass, fill that with water, then put the cuttings into the water, cap off, and put into a freezer and freeze them. They will keep for a very long time.

Some plants like spirea root better in later summer warmth on the dark side of the house. So when you are ready, untaw the jar, take a sterile medium, such as sand, and dip in rooting powder and plant. Do not overwater, yet keep moist.

Freezing is bad if you want something to sprout later. But, you could try rooting the cuttings in water and then letting that dry out until you're ready to plant.

That would be cool! But freezing would kill them. You'll want to use them as soon as you cut, or a couple of days if you sit them in water.
