I prefer a cover letter to be one page.
Your resume should entail your whole work experience so if your resume is 2 pages then so be it. Some recruiters I know prefer a resume to be a page and a half.

Your cover letter should be one page, preferably between 2-3 paragraphs.
Remember, the cover letter is the introduction to your resume AND provides you the initial opportunity to sell yourself to the employer. Failing to catch the employers eye at this stage can sometimes lead to your resume being filed in Cabinet 13.

Unless there is some unusual content that needs to be included in great detail, keep the letter to one page.
Another thing to pay attention to is how the words and paragraphs look: you may want to help the reader along by the styling, such as selecting an easy to read font.

One, two at the most. You want to introduce yourself, your goals, why you should be interviewed. You're not writing a book, just an introduction. Any more you'll be in file#13.

As long as it takes to sell your abilities to the company you are applying for and throw in a SMALL comment to make it personable
