Personalized products are a great way to interest your child in something, however, the product that you are referring to is really too expensive for that type of product. There are lots of personalized products on the market, books, music cd's, dvd's, toys, etc. Some children treat these personalized products like every other toy, book, and movie and watch them, read them, or play with them for a few times, and then they end up in the bottom of the toy box or video collection.

When buying something that is personalized, you never know if your child is going to love it or hate it, so you should always go with something that is somewhat inexpensive, in case your child does hate it, you are not out a lot of money. The video that you refer to definately has more than just your child's name in the movie, by showing the picture of your child. However, the picture definately looks "photo shopped" in and depending on the age of the child, your child won't get much of a kick out of it.

There's another company that has a similar concept for under $30, they have a few different types of movies to pick from that feature your child's name and picture. The movies are called Me Movies: http://memovies.com/php/mm-Page.php?page=home

If it's for a little girl, Amazon has a Dora Personalized DVD for under $15:
http://www.amazon.com/Dora-Explorer-Personalized-Childrens-DVD/dp/B000KKMFF8/ref=sr_1_1/104-5113714-5179944?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1174593985&sr=1-1

Sometimes the videos featuring your child as the star are called Kideos, that may help you while you are searching.

If you think your child would just get a kick out of seeing himself/herself on t.v., you could always get the child a karaoke machine with a built in camera function that lets you plug it into the t.v. so they can see themselves on t.v.

If you want a larger selection of character movies and so forth, the best company to get them from is CDS 4 Kids, they start at slightly over $30 and go to well over $40 in price. They also sell personalized CD's for quite a lot less, which kids love. What kid wouldn't like hearing their name sung in some great songs? http://www.cndskids.com/nis.php?di=1&keywords=Videos+and+DvDs&categ=Videos+and+DvDs is the video and DVD part of their web site

Kideo also sells them, for around $40 and they have a good selection of characters as well: http://www.kideo.com/?ovchn=OTHER&ovcpn=catalogs.com&ovcrn=&ovtac=AD

QVC also sells them, but they around $44, closer to the as seen on t.v. price: http://www.qvc.com/scripts/detail.dll?item=E0478

You just have to make the personal decision "is the cost worth it" base it on your child's interests. If your child is a huge Spiderman fan for instance, then seeing him/her starring in a Spiderman cartoon might be priceless for your child, same goes for Dora, Arthur, the Care Bears, and other popular characters. I've even seen learning videos about the alphabet, and similar ones, geared towards preschoolers and toddlers where they put your child's name and picture in them. If it's something your child "really wants" then you might want to consider it. But if you are just thinking "that might be cute" then you should really consider the cost.

I've never bought these either but, like th poster above, have had personalized books that havn't been read in ages.

Personally though I think I would skip it. Watching the demo it looks pretty fakey/cheesy. The face is so obviously pasted in and doesn't even line up with the body correctly.
I would skip it and get them a video that they might learn something from. (leap frog, little einteins, national geographic, dicovery channel dinosaur videos, etc.)

I've never bought videos but I have bought personalized books and yes they wound up in the pile and got read only a few times. Videos might be more interesting for them though....If you have the extra $45. give it a try....I think its rather pricey though I think for $20 it might be more worth it.
