on a gas tank, probably the best way is to find somebody who sells Paint less Dent Repair kits, these kits usually have a dent puller that you hot glue on and then use the tool to pull the dent. Once that is done it will need to be smoothed over using some type of poly putty and then repainted
yes shops do use the spot weld machines but I would not recommend it for a gas tank even with the gas removed, its the fumes that are explosive and will remain in the tank long after you drain it

Sometimes they can be popped out with pressure. That depends on the dent. If it has a crease, it won't pop. They can be filled, but you lose some of your capacity when you do that. It sounds like you're going to paint it, so try a body shop. There are ways to weld and pull them, I have done it a number of times. I don't give instructions because I don't want the liability. It is NOT dangerous if done CORRECTLY. I have had to fix tanks on my Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha.

I have heard of people filling the tank with water and putting it in the freezer. As the water freezes it will push out the dent when it expands. It could be a cheap and easy fix before spending the big bucks at a body shop. I hope this gives you an alternative to try.

I've seen people try to plug it up and apply compressed air to it......I've also seen people rip open the tank at the welded seams this way!
Once, I filled a tank with water and stuck it in the freezer (water expands when frozen), and had good luck with it, it just took a few applications (as the dent came out a little, add more water to fill tank, freeze again, etc).

depends if the dent is in a curve or not, it probably won't pop out. Filling, sanding and repainting is the only option that will make it look new again, but chances are you could buy one from the dealership for close to the same money (unless you wanted custom paint).
most people just live with it

I would call one of the paintless dent removal folks and let an expert do it. They will come right to your house if you'd like them to.

You could try one of those gadgets that are like a big suction cap and pull the dent out.
Please empty the tank before you try anything!
