I have testified in court many times. The way it worked here is All the witnesses are brought in the bailiff says raise your right hand and then he asks if we all swear to tell the truth and we all say yes then we are taken back out to wait. No bible in sight.

Well, I don't think people are sworn in using Bibles anymore. We are a country of many many religions. Now, you hold up your right hand and swear to tell the truth.

Gosh, all those Muslims and Buddhists and Hindis, and all those Jewish people swearing on the New Testament must be a bunch of liars too! While you're at it, go ahead and group them with those awful atheists!

Atheists (Muslims, Hindus or those who do not believe) are supposed to declare they do not believe in Christianity / the Bible in advance so they can take another type of oath.

I've asked myself the same thing. It's a matter of law not religion. On what else could we have them swear? Their mother's head is the only thing I've ever come up with.

well they still have to do it by law, besides if they swear to tell the truth then change their story the person questioning could make a point of it saying they might be lying then, and put pressure on the deffendant so they crack and tell the truth

good point thou

Only if you don't tell the truth , the bible is an insignificant object if your an atheist so aside from that it doesn't count .
