What kind of top do I have on my Amish-made island?

Ok, it looks like butcher's block, only it's huge and I put a cookie cooling rack on it and scratched it all up. Would wood do that? What I want to know is how to fix it and I don't want to sand it if its not wood....i'm sure you get the idea.

sounds like a laminate top and no, you don't want to sand it..You will probably have to live w/ it or replace the whole thing...
