Autism has grown in the last year from one in every 166 children to one in every 150. That is a 16% jump in one years time! It is time that everyone became informed about Autism and helped to find the cause/cure. Please visit my page and become involved.http://www.autismwalk.org/site/TR?pg=personal&fr_id=1320&px=1940252

That statistic of 1 in 166 can be quite misleading. Not everyone out of that catogary has proufound autism. Some have Rett's syndrome, Asperger's syndrome, or childhood disintigrative disorder, or PDD otherwise not specified. So, perhaps the autism rate has not "grown" so significantly. Also, some autistics don't want to be "cured", they want to be accepted as having different strenghts and weaknesses.

the perception of the pain and thestruggle of parents is a very individual experience... My brother has Autism and on top of it he is a PKU Syndrome that was not detected on time... My parents don't have money and it is a lifetime struggle... I don't think anyone that does not know what having a child with Autism or any other disability has the authoritynor the right to say a damn thing about how serious, hard, real or what ever it is. Of course I support Autism Walk!!!

Hi

Keep in mind that Autism spectrum disorder covers a lot of disorders, ADHD, Asperger's etc all fall into this spectrum.

As a Youth worker/carer for young people with disabilities, and a mother of a ADHD, ODD and Dyslexic daughter, I know all to well difficulties the parents of a disabled child face. So I wish you luck.

I have being doing some research on Asperger's syndrome for my studies, and thought you might like these two quotes I found, you maybe able to use them on your web site.

Quotes from Hans Asperger

“It seems that for success in science and art, a dash of autism is essential."

"Exceptional human beings must be given exceptional educational treatment, treatment which takes into account their special difficulties. Further, we can show that despite abnormality, human beings can fulfil their social role within the community, especially if they find understanding, love and guidance."

yes. as a mother with an autistic child, the growing rate of this disability is scary. we need to find the cause in order to prevent it and we need to find a cure to help those who are already affected. people needs to realize that it's not only the rich kids get it. low and middle income families are also raising children with autism. all of these children needs answers. and for those who doesnt understand what mothers go through in taking care of these children obviously has never been affected by it.

I do not support Autism Speaks. Have you watched their fundraising video "Autism Everyday"? It is on their website. The video shows autism in the worst possible light. It features ultra priviledged mothers whining about how bad their lives are because of their autistic children. There's even a part in it where a mother talks about when she almost killed herself and her autistic child WITH HER AUTISIC DAUGHTER RIGHT BEHIND HER!

They are Scaremongering Scumbags who prey on desparate parent's frustration in hopes of donations to fund their eugenic research. Take off your rose colored glasses and see them for what they are.
