I have taken down a very ugly fence and would like to skirt my yard with some bushes/trees/hedges for privacy.

Is there something nice-looking and inexpensive that can stand up to harsh New England winters?

Thanks!

Some pines would make a nice hedge. I have 4 and they're full of chickadees all winter.

Yew is also a good, thick evergreen choice.

Some varieties of hydrangea grow pretty fast and tall, too. Only problem is they're sparse in ainter.
