I have 2 websites due to a recent company rebranding. 1 is the old website, which has established traffic and search engine rankings, the new one has no ranking or traffic. Unfortunately the old site must go.

What is the best way to get traffic to the new website? Would it be best to forward old to new, or link old to new?

I would also consider other web marketing EG pay per click, whilst the optimisation propagates in the search engine - any other ideas to generate interim traffic???

This is simple, just do a 301 redirect from the old site to the new. This tells search engines that the old site is no more and everything will be going to the new site. They will index it and all your traffic will go there as well. it will take a little bit for the rankings to get back to normal but everything will work out fine. you do not need to start up ppc if havent already on the other site.

First you need to link the old site to the new site, this will generate traffic from your old clients and links from high ranking to low ranking sites will help bring the new site up the ranks. You still need to make sure the site optimisation has been done on the new web

If you can, first put a link in the old site or redirect to the new site or to a page like the following, providing an explanation.

Whatever

Whatever

www.old.com is now www.new.com

You will automatically be redirected to
the new site in 10 seconds.
