You make the defender commit one direction and go the other way. If you think about it, that's what every move is designed to do. The easiest method is to fool the defender with your eyes, then a head fake. Cross over accomplishes it the best but it has to be done effectively.

With the ball before the dribble... you can always fake a pass first. You can look off a defender (look one way and go another). You can lean and step one way without traveling then dribble and move opposite. Fake a shot if they are playing off to get them to jump at you... when they are off balance or in the air go right by them.
With a dribble...If the defender is over playing one side, turn you shoulder slightly to protect the ball and when they take the next step, spin and your first step should be right next to their trailing foot. Use a cross over if you are going with some speed one way and then switch directions.

You either need a killer, ankle breaking, murderous crossover or a good screen from a teammate. Those are the only two ways. The last resort is jabbing your foot towards the basket and shooting it right in the person's face rather than penetrating.

The crossover is a good move or you can use a v-cut move fake like you are going inside( without the ball) then pop back out when you get the ball back you should have some space to go inside,or make this move inside the paint.
