I want to know what is the best and most challenging mountain climb in the United States, or Canada? What is the tallest peak that has been climbed to date in N. America?

It really depends on what you want. If you want something to test your endurance and push you to the limit, Denali (McKinnley) in Alaska is the hardest. Its over 20,000ft tall and close to the arctic circle, so conditions are frigid. The climbing is not difficult on the main route, more like hiking with alot of suffering involved.

If it is alpine climbing (snow and ice)you want, the canadian rockies have lots of hard technical climbs that are shorter but more spectacular. The East face of Mt Whitney in the sierra nevada mountains is enjoyable, straight up and lots of good holds the whole way.

Different people want different things out of a climb so there really is no best climb - its whatever suits you.
