And please if you've never done any research into this don't answer, because all the banks I've talked to, Bank of America, Suntrust, and Provident, said no.

Then you've pretty much gotten your answer ............. NO!

All banks will require an adult on the account. Some 'will' let you slide if you're close to your 18th birthday.

Commerce lets you, but you need a parent to say it's ok first and sign something saying it's ok with them and they can withdraw money from your account. That probably isn't a good idea if your parents are greedy. Farmers and Mechanics Bank lets you open a jr account on your own, but that bank is only in certain states. I have opened an account with both and with First Bank of Hawaii when I was a minor. Those banks are good choices if you live near one.

No, I think most banks will require a joint account with parents for anyone under 18

i opened an account at a local bank at 17 but i was only allowed to have a savings account.....try some local banks they are more liberal than the big chains...
