I think it is rude to say to someone you don't even know that comment when all they're trying to be is nice. I don't understand why it bothers you. I could understand if it is someone you come in contact with frequently, and isn't exactly the nicest person. But that's not the case. It shouldn't be a big deal to your white friends either, because they've opened up to someone who is different from them already, and they should open up to cultures different from them as well. You shouldn't close yourself into a box where you can only tolerate the people who are inside your bubble, because that's what creates ignorance. Would you be embarrassed if you were Spanish and other Latinos came up to you and started speaking to you in Spanish. You're culture is only trying to connect with you.

do you know where you came from?

being a brotha or a sista doesn't even have to do with being ghetto. i see at as a thing a positivity whether your workin on wall street or crusin down crenshaw. it sure in hell is a better term of endearment that ya know- the word that almost got kramer's a** kicked.

it shouldn't be such an embarressment. that's all i'm sayin.

They would likely consider it rude of you so I wouldn't comment on it . Your other friends should well understand and not give it a second thought either in my opinion so forget about it . If any of it doesn't seem right to you then it's not on you anyways . That way all can just be their selves and get along because we have little power to change others habits sometimes . Best not to sweat the small stuff .

In the 60's we emphasized we were all brothers, white, black, Chicano, what ever. You do have to separate that from the ghetto **** though. I myself am, at times, embarrassed to be white. Don't know what to do about that.

No. I feel that there is a code that we should ALL live by and that until you know a person and are aware of how they feel about things like black slang or whatever, you don't call the person "Brother". Tell them that they are in your bubble. And if it's rude, Well, hey, then I guess it's rude.

You are sadly mistaken...
Calling you "brotha" is a sign of respect.
It's not ghetto at all...
And you need to get some culture...
Your Black...and all of you White friends know it so stop trying to be something your not...

Just be because they call you brotha and act how ever, shrugg it off and smile. You can't predict what other people do, say or act. You can avoid them if possible or move, But the cultures will not change

Whether you believe in creationism or evolution it doesn't matter we are all brothers and sisters; skin color, language or culture has nothing to do with it at all. But to answer the question; yes it is rude.
