Potential is the capacity in a person or a thing to become something else. Iron has the potential of becoming a knife. Iron is also real but the knife is also real. I have the potential to become anything I want such as the President of USA. Reality is that it is not possible because I do not have the know-how, training and money.
Potential is that I am beautiful enough to become a prost and make a lot of money. Reality is that my personality and bringing up will not permit it.
Uranium Plutonium and other such metals have the potential to become destructive weapons or energy producing Power Stations!

The fact that as long as you live you will have to make choices in the face of alternatives. Potential resides in those that make consistent choices in regard to their knowledge and value system. In reality these are the people who achieve the most and are most worthy of friendship and help.
