He is severely addicted to cocaine and is a danger to himself and others. He has gotten into car accidents many times and fled and has threatened to kill my entire family and then himself on more than one occasion. He is delusional and thinks that gremlins sent from the devil live with him and tell him to do bad things. He will not get help, although he has tried in the past but never successfully. He is too far gone now.
Does anyone know of anyway that the family can force him into rehab? He needs help or he's going to die. I feel he is of great threat to others around him and I don't want anyone else to get hurt. Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

If the rest of your family feel this way, have him committed. He may not appreciate it now, but once he's clean he'll see you did it out of love. It's either this or talk him into going into rehab on his own. There are many books on doing interventions and several organizations who can help you with this. Good Luck.

I believe your uncle is possessed because he knows the something inside of him is not normal. The drug habit allows demons inside the body. Cocaine is psychologically and spiritually addictive. Cocaine is not chemically addictive. The mechanisms of cocaine are that when a person takes a hit of cocaine, it releases dopamine in mass. It is equivalent to a massive orgasm. There is a huge release of dopamine that can never be duplicated a second time. After the first hit, the same rush never comes again. The dopamine gives the biological fix, not the cocaine. That's why people on cocaine are very tormented.

All addictions are rooted in the need to be loved.

No one can show love like the Lord Jesus Christ. Your uncle needs the Lord and Jesus Christ is his only hope. In addictions dopamine is very important to pay attention to because it is the pleasure neurotransmitter of the human body. The body produces it very slowly while serotonin can be replaced very quickly. Ask your pastor or priest to speak with your uncle. Many areas have Christian counseling for people using drugs.

The only way I can see would be to have his next-of-kin go to court to have him declared legally incompetent, and then sign off on his involuntary stay in rehab. I think this would be an expensive procedure far beyond most families' means.

I think you'll find that rehab requires a desire to heal. Even willing patients have a hard time. Unwilling patients would have huge problems, methinks.

Plan B is to hold him accountable for the death threats. The criminal justice system will keep him off the streets for a bit. Don't think he won't have access to drugs in there, though.

Unfortunately since you cannot force rehab on someone I would say that although I would ahte to do this myself I wuold call the police on him, then during his trial he will be issued mandatory in-house rehab and probably put into a mental rehabilitation center (psych ward) after that. Unfortunately I think its the only way to force it on him.

tough love. Turn him in to the authorities. If he has been arrested before, he's probably on some sort of probation. Contact his probation officer. If you don't know who that is, contact the court in your county or jurisdiction. They can refer you to the correct agency. If his parents or siblings can, they can have him committed against his will. Just be prepared to back up, with proof.
