I believe that when half of us don't bother to vote, it's obvious who it is that really isn't filling their role in this representative Democracy. Just think what it would do to the politicians if 90% of us took enough interest in what they do to get up and vote. I think it would scare the hell out of them and we would begin to see a government that is much more responsive to the wants and needs of the people.
I'm not saying that I'm prepared to commit to voting for Barrack Obama. But I have been very impressed so far.
I like to see a politician that apparently isn't afraid to attempt to get more people involved in the political process.

thatgirl, It has become obvious to me, that we need someone who is going to sneak in past the gatekeepers. I don't see any third party candidates that can do that yet. Experience in Washington seems to be comparable to experience in prison. All they do is lear how to be better crooks.

For those of you who claim it isn't his question. Maybe he didn't write it, but obviously he approved it or it wouldn't be on here. I understand that he won't read all of these answers, but someone will. And perhaps the results will get to him.
What's the alternative? Politicians who don't give a damn what the people think?
When a politician tells me that they don't read polls, I know two things: 1) He's lying! 2) He's trying to tell the people to shutup and let me do what I believe is right for you. You're too stupid to know what is right for you.

I think both his question and yours show that you really don't understand why people choose not to vote. Look, say a small town sheriff locked you up for speeding, and gave you a choice of colors for the rubber hose he was going to beat you with. Would you actually care what color it was? Wouldn't you be more interested if the choice was to pay a fine and go free or spend a night in jail?

People aren't voting because there's no real choice. Most of us really and truly want a smaller government, and aren't foolish enough to think either party will provide it, so at the end of the day we're better off spending voting day earning a living than putting our seal of approval on an election that didn't give us a real choice.

Your comments about third parties show that you are part of the problem. Our system of elections only works if people vote as if they were the only person that gets to vote, and if that's for the person that comes in third, so be it. You, on the other hand, actually want your choices narrowed to two for you, and are happy enough to live with the fact that doing that is more than likely going to eliminate the real "best" choice for most of us.

Obama not afraid to get more people involved? Well, if he wants more VOTERS involved, give us more candidates. THAT is what he and all other Dems and Repubs fear.

He's no more fit to be President than Hillary or McCain. Neither of the two parties has given me a choice that could persuade me to go out of my way to vote for decades.

I'll let you know what the Libertarians do, they usually have someone that actually understands what the Constitution says.

Ron Paul Ron Paul gets his 13-25 p.c. from extra often than not independents, how a lot of human beings have you ever heard say something yet obama? If Ron Paul gets the gop nomination theres a large style of human beings who will vote for him purely because of the fact he's honesty and because he's not Obama. I vote for him because of the fact that is vote i could be happy with. while i'm on my dying mattress i'm going to be proud to renowned I voted for a solid individual, a undemanding individual and somebody that could continuously guard the form and liberty.

Obama or any other politician for that fact don't give a rats a-ss about what we submit as an answer. Its purely political to get votes they should not be here spilling their lies out as if they care. Isn't there a lot of important work to be done in Congress, but yet they find more time to come here regardless if its an aide. Try calling or writing to them see what response if any you get.

The only reason Barrack is asking a question on Answers is to give you another opportunity to see his face and name. Do you really believe he is posting this question and reading your responses. He has people to do that for him.

Regardless of the desire of the people (50% or 90%), politicians will always be beholden to those that get them elected, not societal individuals.

The Democratic Party made the 2006 elections all about "fixing" the war. Now, they are being protested by the very people that elected them. It will not change their behavior, only the rhetoric.

Obama is without a doubt a hard chore communist, thus I have no respect for him nor any of his comrades what so ever, and what ever spews from his corrupted big mouth is garbage, and believe it or not, the people that have not been voting are well aware of the fact that there has not been a single politician worthy of a hard working US citizens vote for the last 15 yrs. I for one am sick-n-tired of voting for "The lesser of two evils" to coin a phrase, thus the bottom line is the fact that democracy is hypocrisy in the minds of most of our so-called politicians:(

I think Obama's question is not really HIS question. I think it was put out by his campaign manager, written by an aide. I doubt that he will even read the answers... he might not even know about the question.

This goes for all the politicians who put questions to this forum. They can't fart without a campaign handler let alone type a question on the internet.

This is for WINGS: wtf does it matter if his father was a Muslim and his mother was a atheist? What does it matter that he did drugs in college? You're deluded if you think that there are choir boys out there over 30... look at our current president. Big deal if he has a past that you can't deal with.

I think it's ridiculous. Candidates are using Yahoo Answers to put themselves out there and in your head, which is fine, it's all part of campaigning, but it's silly to think the dude is even going to read these answers and sillier still to think he would act on any of them.

He may be a great guy. I really don't know. He's biggest problem is lack of experience. He talks a great game....time will tell if he's got game.

Why don't people vote?

If you ask me its because the people they can vote for don't represent their opinions or simply don't follow through with their promises.

People don't vote because it doesn't matter they know that the corporations with their expense accounts and political donations run capitalist democratic systems. The rest is just a big theatrical charade to hide the truth rather badly at times on might add.

A NO VOTE IS A VOTE FOR ANARCHY!!!!!!!

LETS TAKE THE POWER BACK

It's obvious Barak didn't write the question and won't be reading the answers. It isn't even signed by him. This is the same situation with the Hillary Clinton question, the response was from someone in her PR staff. They are coming here for votes, not for our opinions. Politicians are the same all over.

If they really valued our opinions, why would they wait until the campaign to come to Yahoo Answers to ask us?

it is an interesting question. many people do not vote because the government do not care for them. they only care for the ones who can get them the votes they need.
