Yo have a problem with your graphics controller, either onboard graphics or graphics card. You will probably need to reinstall windows.

Okay after reading the answers above me I had a good chuckle. The reason the video card goes dark upon reboot is basically your computer is shutting down all devices, Inputs and Outputs then it will reboot. It will then have to reinitialize all the devices. If your monitor stays dark until windows the most common cause for this issue is that you might have a second video device say a Video Card that is not set to primary. Your operating system will detect it and switch over automatically.
While it is dark the video card is essentially shut off and not driving any output to your monitor.

That is normal behaviour. A Re-boot causes the power to becut off from the monitor to reset it.
